19-Year-Old Carlos Alcaraz Reclaims #1 Tennis Ranking, Breaks Daniil Medvedev’s Winning Streak

Carlos Alcaraz is back on top!

The 19-year-old Spaniard defeated 27-year-old Russian Daniil Medvedev during the final Men’s Singles match at the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells Tennis Garden on Sunday (March 19) in Indian Wells, Calif.

The teenager prevailed in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Carlos reclaimed his #1 ATP tennis ranking, dethroning Novak Djokavic, who recently broke the record for the most time spent at #1 in the professional tennis rankings by a man or woman (378 weeks in the ATP’s top spot, surpassing Steffi Graf’s 377 leading the WTA).

In September 2022, Carlos first made history as the youngest No. 1 player in tennis history after winning against Norwegian Casper Ruud during the US Open.

Yesterday, Charlize Theron and Bill Gates were on hand to watch Carlos‘s match against friendly rival Jannik Sinner.
